Have you been wanting to teach podcasts in your class but you aren't quite sure where to start? This lesson is an exciting, modern, and rigorous resource for you to use in your high school, college, or home school classroom. Students will be introduced to the popularity and effectiveness of podcasts in our 21st century society, and then they'll analyze their own podcast episode for rhetorical strategies.
This resource includes:
+A PowerPoint presentation that will take you through each portion of the lesson (and it contains the objective, Common Core standards, and essential questions)
+A warm up
+A group activity (listening to a small portion of Serial Season One Episode One)
+An individual activity (students will select an episode of This American Life from a list to take notes on and analyze for rhetorical strategies)
+An essay assignment (writing a rhetorical analysis) and a rubric
IN ADDITION - this lesson includes a sheet that will explain the entire resource on to you, how I like to teach it, links to the Podcast episodes, recommendations on timing, etc.
This lesson can be anywhere between 1-4 class periods, depending on your schedule and classes. I usually do it in 4 class periods.
