This is the first lesson of six (currently under development) in a Media / Cultural Studies unit I am creating for my senior, academic English students. It is based on the text, Practices of Looking: An Introduction to Visual Culture, by Marita Sturken and Lisa Cartwright.
This lesson uses some direct examples from the text but I have also created newer, more culturally relevant content.
The lesson covers six key areas:
1. Practices of Looking
3. The Myth of the Photographic Truth
4. Images and Ideology
5. How We Negotiate the Meaning of Images
6. The Value of Images
