The following is an activity in which students are assigned to contrast what television with real life.
Students are instructed to watch 2 hours of prime-time television shows (yes...assigning homework that is to actually watch t.v.) and while watching chart their observations about how media portrays human behavior and culture. Then students are asked to make comparisons to reality by observing behavior in school, the mall, sporting events, etc. Lastly students are asked to draw a conclusion about the comparison and contrasts between the two.
A graphic organizer is provided for students to chart and record their observations about television and reality.
