Medial Sounds Game - PDF file
4 page resource.
Children spend a lot of time learning about initial or single sounds. We learn to spell a word through hearing the most dominant sounds such as the first and then the last.
The medial sound is heard last and taught
less. This sometimes consequents in words being miss read and therefore miss spelt as our reading informs our writing/spelling.
Explicit lessons on hearing the medial sounds in CVC words such as cat, hot, run, net and pin are a good place to start as there is a clear beginning, final and medial sound.
The medial sound in this game has
been underlined to help children hear it and see it.
