This phonemic awareness and phonics game contains three bingo card sets that help students to distinguish the three most commonly confused medial vowel sounds, /a/ and /e/, /i/ and /e/ and /o/ and /u/. Students will practice word segmentation, initial and medial vowel isolation and sound to symbol recognition for short vowel sounds.
The game can be played in two different ways, using bingo cards with pictures that require students to match initial vowel sounds with medial vowel sounds or with letters that require students to match medial vowel sounds to symbols.
Each bingo set contains three different colored bingo cards with initial sound pictures, three different black and white lined bingo cards with initial sound pictures and three different bingo cards with short vowel letters. At the end of all of the packet are nine CVC or CCVC picture word cards for each short vowel sound, for a total of 45 picture cards.
To play the game, students take turns drawing a picture card and segmenting the word in order to isolate the medial vowel sound. They then match that vowel sound to the corresponding space on their bingo card. The first student to get four in a row wins. For additional practice, black out can be played.
