This assignment allows students to take an active role in the creation of a stable China. Students will rely on their understanding of China from previous instruction on Classical China. Students will also build off of their prior knowledge by engaging in research. The instructor must organize the students into the roles laid out on the document provided and assist them so that they develop their role properly. The instructor is encouraged to provide a bit of context to the student so that they understand the role that they are playing. As stated in the document, once the preparation is complete (2 class periods) the "Emperor" will conduct a press conference in order to introduce the civil service exam and interview the candidates for the available government positions. This will all culminate in an in class "civil service exam" which will be created by the Emperor and taken by the rest of the class. The teacher must carefully analyze the exam before it is given to the class.
