Description

This 68 slide PowerPoint presentation, with accompanying lecture notes, is designed to support a unit of instruction on the Middle Ages - specifically, medieval Europe with a focus on the Franks, feudalism, and chivalry. After the fall of the Roman Empire, Europe became decentralized and the feudal system developed. Although Charlemagne ruled over a large Frankish Empire at the turn of the 9th century, his empire did not survive him and local lords held power in Europe. The feudal system led to frequent military conflicts and the system of chivalry - the warrior code of the mounted knight - developed in order to combine barbaric warrior traditions with Christian values.
