Good videos are tough to come by, which is unfortunate because they are entirely necessary. An informative, entertaining and relevant video is an essential component of any good unit plan. Kids are visual creatures, and if a video is used with a proper purpose you will be amazed at how much they can learn just by watching.
Purpose is key, so we include a choice of writing prompts that connect the video to the material that has been already covered in class. These prompts can help meet the Common Core requirements and help improve your students' writing abilities.
We do not include a worksheet with the video, as is commonly done to ensure student attention. With an accompanying worksheet kids will focus on the upcoming question and waiting for that information rather than understanding the context of the entire video. Rather, we accompany only a note sheet with the writing prompts to guide student focus.
