Students put themselves in the shoes of a Medieval Muslim going on a pilgrimage to Mecca, within 500 years of Muhammad's death. They write 5-10 journal entries (depending on how much they have to say and how many "adventures" they have) documenting their pilgrimage to Mecca. The expectations and instructions are clear (including spiritual activities, route maps, difficulties encountered, and more!), there are websites provided to help get students started, and students have room for creativity. A points distribution is included. Depending on your students and resources available, this can take 2-3 days in class.
