Description

The Early Christian monks and nuns created beautiful art on ancient manuscripts. We call these miniature decorations, "Illuminations". We have created a packet that allows students to experiment with this Medieval artwork. Using quotes from actual individuals of the era, (Teresa of Avila, Augustine of Hippo, and Philaret of Moscow), students are invited to illustrate or "illuminate" the quotes in the areas left open for imagery.

We provide a page of informational text in both color and black/white, which explains about illuminations and the people who created them.

See more details about how we used this packet in our Medieval Unit investigating monks at our blog,A Medieval Feast fit for a Monk.
