This assignment can be used as a Socratic discussion in class over differing attitudes towards social class and foreign cultures by explorers and leaders in Europe and Asia. The assignment includes a link to a Primary Source Investigator where students can access free resources. In turn, when students have read their selected source, they compare it with their colleagues in regional groups (Europe and Asia) to reach a consensus on regional attitudes. When finished, they present their findings to a larger regional group who, in turn, present their conclusions to the class. The other group, in turn, is invited to question and challenge their assumptions.
