Students, during the winter, are fascinated with snowflakes and then making them too of course. This is a chance for teachers to focus the snowflake making to align with common mathematical vocabulary and even turn the snowflake into a character for a creative writing piece.
Students can be held accountable for their work and their creative writing piece by sharing it with their peers. A rubric is added for assessment purposes of the activity that also includes the opportunity for the writer and presenter to assess themselves as well.
These pieces can be worked on, shared, and even hung in the hallway for a quick and fun display.
