Join the First Ladies of the Presidents of the United States - for Tea at the White House!

8 guided reading play scripts (6 speakers each) plus quizzes for each. All 39 Ladies have something remarkable to relate about their experience as wife to the president. Share some truly moving accounts of what it takes - to be a First Lady.

Please note: Teaching time of 40 minutes is very approximate, depending on time spent on reading and answering quiz questions.

The 39 First Ladies included below are those presidents' wives who carried out the duties of First Ladies. Those not included are the wives who died before their husbands became president - as in the case of Martha Jefferson, Rachel Jackson, Hannah Van Buren and Ellen Herndon Arthur - or those ladies who helped out in the role of hostess, for whatever reason but were not married to the president.

These guided reading texts highlight the highs and lows of being a First Lady - showing how exceptional these women were, each in their own ways. (In celebration of *International Woman's Day March 8th this set truly demonstrates the strengths of the so-called weaker sex).
I have written a set of guided reading play scripts to 'compliment' every 'traditional' class play I have written. The focus of these mini plays is more on reading than performing, which is why I refer to them as 'Readers Theater' and I see them as a wonderful classroom resource, delivering the curriculum via role play. I have used this format with classes I have taught and know first-hand how well this innovative form of teaching works. For the complete collection of guided reading play scripts I have written, visit my website www.plays-r-ussell.com
*Also available - Amazing Women: a set of 5 guided reading play scripts which look at amazing women:

2. From across the world, 20th Century
3. In the American Women's Suffrage Movement
4. In the American Civil Rights Movement
