Introduce students to the school counselor with a fun cootie catcher! (I always called them Fortune Tellers growing up - so pick your poison!) Each flap has a question about the role of a school counselor. Questions include:
What does "confidential" mean?
How do you know if you need to see the school counselor?
Why would the school counselor come find you?
What does the school counselor teach lessons about?
Why does the school counselor meet with teachers and parents?
What kinds of things can you talk to the school counselor about?
How can you set up a visit with the school counselor?
What can you do if you see the school counselor in the hallway?
This product also comes with a "side notes" page where I explain reasoning behind a few of these questions. For example, I prefer smiles and high fives in the hallway as opposed to unexpected bear hugs! Or when I am searching for a student it's not because they are in trouble!
I use this lesson for grades 3, 4, and 5, although the older the student the easier time they have folding. I would recommend about 30-40 minutes for this lesson.
Please ask any questions, happy folding!
