Mega Bundle Packet of Reading Syllable Type Word Lists and Games/Activities

The mega bundle packet includes 400+ words lists and 75 games and activities!!!

This bundle gives me an organized way to teach reading throughout the year. It is basically my reading road map for the year. Closed Syllable is the first syllable type I teach. Once students know how to read the Closed Syllable, their foundation to reading is in place. Second I teach the Vowel-Consonant-e Syllable. Once they master reading these kinds of words, students have a strong foundation in reading and are ready to move on. Third I teach r-Controlled Syllable. The way I set up the r-Controlled Syllable packet, students only have four sounds to learn. So they are able to quickly pocket these sounds and move on to learning the Vowel Digraph & Diphthong Syllables. This syllable type takes a few weeks to complete, and then I am off to teaching the Open and Final Stable Syllable types for the remaining of the year.

Let me briefly tell you how I use the word lists [Bundle 1]. My reading routine each day consists of discussing and teaching a list of words [from Bundle 1, depending on what syllable type I am teaching]. After reading and discussing the word list for the day, students write the words on a list for homework. [My Reading Homework Word List is a free product that can be downloaded.] Next the student reads a decodable book that can be downloaded and printed from the Reading A-Z site []. These books are leveled according to syllable type and work perfectly for beginning readers. There are 68 of these books, and I have beginning readers to sequentially read the whole set. After they read the book to me, then the student takes the same book home for homework, along with their word list. The next day the student brings their word list and book back to my small reading group. The word list can be read to a friend, and the student reads the book again to me. This way the students reads the word list and book three times, and this helps the student grow in their reading fluency and accuracy.

Simultaneously, while I am running my reading routine, I incorporate Bundle 2, and the students complete activities and play games that correspond with the syllable type on which we are mastering . This way the students are having fun while specific skills are being target to reinforce the syllable type I am teaching.

I know this routine sounds simplistic, but my students experience good success in learning to read, and as a teacher, I consistently have direction and focus on my upcoming goals.

BUNDLE 1: There are 6 reading packets in this bundle - one for each of the 6 syllable types in reading. The basic overall purpose of learning syllable type reading is to give students 6 reading strategies to aid them in chunking longer words into short, readable parts. Learning to read by identifying the type of syllable is the most consistent method to teach reading to your students, and the easiest way for your students to learn to read. All of the words lists incorporate patterns using all the vowels. The closed syllable and V-C-e syllable word lists target words with common phonograms.

BUNDLE 2: This bundle packet contains activities and games that teach each of the 6 syllable types. The activities/games can be placed in language stations, or they can be played during small groups. So enjoy as you watch your students learn these 6 strategies that will lead to them breaking the code to reading!

Another feature in this bundle packet is the option to create student word work notebooks. There is a notebook for every syllable type. So as you are teaching each syllable type, you have the word work at your fingertips for each unit. These word work notebooks are very teacher and student friendly which saves you a ton of time preparing! This gives students the opportunity to identify and label the various syllable types using high quality words.
