OPTION 1; Cut and Paste

Have students cut out pictures and descriptions of the meiosis phases. Have them sort/match them correctly. Check student work. Have students glue all cards onto labeled table (front and back). Could be used as an inquiry lesson OR as review!

OPTION 2; Foldable

Have pictures and descriptions pre-cut for students to sort. I laminate mine so they can be used over and over. Have students sort/match the pictures with the descriptions. Check student work. Have students transfer that information into a foldable that can be glued into an interactive notebook if that is an option! Then, have them cut the foldable so it can be used as a study tool! Again, this could be as an inquiry lesson OR as a review!

Make and defend a claim based on evidence that inheritable genetic variations may result from (1) new genetic combinations through meiosis, (2) viable errors occurring during replication, and/or (3) mutations caused by environmental factors. Emphasis is on using data to support arguments for the way variation occurs. Assessment does not include the phases of meiosis or the biochemical mechanism of specific steps in the process.
Use a model to illustrate the role of cellular division (mitosis) and differentiation in producing and maintaining complex organisms. Assessment does not include specific gene control mechanisms or rote memorization of the steps of mitosis.
