Product Description
New Resource! This is a great hands-on activity to reinforce the concepts in meiosis. It is an excellent follow-up to the Big Meiosis Foldable (which is best used to teach the concept of meiosis to begin with).

This activity involves students figuring out the stages of meiosis using cut out images and gluing them onto a graphic organizer. After they have done this, there are post-activity follow up questions for them to answer that get them to more deeply understand the process of meiosis. Answer keys for the graphic organizer and for the follow up questions are provided. The images in this activity are accurate, clear and crisp as I drew them myself using Adobe Illustrator.

IMPLEMENTING THIS ACTIVITY

Step 1: Hand out a copy of the “Cut Page” and the “Paste Page” to each student (or group) along with scissors for each student and glue/glue stick/clear tape. (I prefer to use tape as it’s less messy, however, if you would like them to color in their images after assembly, then glue is better).

Step 2: Give them time to cut out their pieces on the “Cut Page” and time to position them in the right stages of meiosis on the “Paste Page”.

Step 3: Once they’ve settled in the correct sequence for all of their cut outs, they may glue/tape them down. You may want to add an extra instruction that they need to have you come over to inspect the sequence before the final gluing/taping. (I have provided an answer key to make inspecting easier).

Step 4: Once they have their images pasted, they can use the remaining space to write descriptions of the events at each stage of meiosis. (I have provided a description of all the stages of meiosis for you to reference).

Step 5: Hand out the “Post Activity Questions” Worksheet to each student (even if they worked in groups) and give them time to complete the worksheet. You may have them hand in this worksheet at the end of class/the next day for marks or not. (I have provided an answer key for quick marking.)
