Phonics Boxes are activities formatted for the boxes available at Michaels that contain 16 smaller boxes. These activities can also be stored in 6x9 brown envelopes or any other way you would like to store them. Each “box” contains a sound or syllable sort and a flashcard activity/game. The cards can also be used just as flashcards and, if laminated, you can have your students use dry erase markers to highlight phonic concepts (such as vowels, digraphs, blends, etc.) There is a title card for the front of the box or envelope and directions. I use double-sided tape to adhere them.
“Melted” is for identifying and reading words with the 3 sounds of the suffix “ed”.
For the word sort, students will decide what sound the suffix “ed” makes in the word and put it on the correct ice cream cone. 3 header cards and 48 word cards are included.
For the game “Melted”, shuffle the 48 word cards and the melted and cherry cards together. Blank ice cream cones are also included – print one for each student in the group. Students take turns reading the word cards. They are trying to collect the most scoops of ice cream for their cone. If they get a “melted” card, they must return one ice cream scoop card. They also need one cherry for the top of their cone. The student with the most scoops AND a cherry for the top is the winner.
