In 1915, professor and humanitarian Moira Michael wrote:
“We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.”
She then thought of an idea to wear red poppies on Memorial Day in honor of those who died serving the nation during war.
This Memorial Day craft pays tribute to Michael's poem and remembers veterans by combining the red poppies with simple ways students can support the troops in this creative Memorial Day craft.
The package includes "The Story of Moina Michael," which explains the history behind the Remembrance Poppies, Directions, a Photo Pattern of the finished craft, and two Pattern Templates, one with prewritten ways to celebrate Memorial Day and one on which students can write their own remembrance ideas.
