PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Students learn about the history of Memorial Day by visiting 3 websites and answering 15 questions of varying levels of difficulty (answers are included where appropriate). If your students have access to computers with a sub this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--Why would the reason from the history.com url have been significant in the decades following the Civil War?
--Which locations claim to be where Decoration/Memorial Day was first celebrated? Does it matter where it was actually first celebrated, why or why not?
--Why do you think the South refused to acknowledge the holiday and honor their deceased on separate days? When did it begin celebrating with the rest of the nation and why?
--Explain the significance of red poppies.
--Explain General Logan's order from 1868 in your own words to demonstrate understanding (from the VA website).
