What a meaningful way to end the year! Students create poems about each other and their experiences together over the past school year. Then, after they decorate their work, they read them aloud in a class poetry-slam and make a gift of the poem to their subject. This activity includes clearly outlined steps and a sample poem; it also incorporates a worksheet to assist students in generating some basic figurative language such as metaphor, simile and hyperbole, which can easily be omitted if you lack time. This activity was inspired in part by the Remember Me? poem idea of Linda Christensen.
