I love teaching children about sensory language, and making them aware of mental images that they form in their mind when they read something.
This unit is a quick and easy way to introduce “Mental Images.”
The poster at the beginning defines what a mental image is and gives specific examples.
The first two pages will help them form simple mental images, and expand on the image as more words are added.
The unit also includes 5 short scenarios for students to read, draw their mental image, and identify the words that helped them form their image. (Great for partners or small groups to compare and contrast images.)
One page in the unit can be used to teach mental images with the book The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein.
Enjoy and Happy Teaching!
