This resource contains the following activities:

1)Beginner: map your school: (materials: printouts , colored pen/pencils)
This is a good activity for lower level students, or to use as an introduction to map reading and spatial awareness.
* Students draw a mental map of their school
* Students walk around the school (with partners or as a class) to verify the accuracy of their maps
* Students complete reflection questions.

2)Intermediate: map your city: (materials: printout, city map (paper or electronic/ projection), colored pen/ pencils)
* Students draw a mental map of their city
* Students share their maps with a partner and add new details
* Students consult a real map and use a colored pen/ pencil to add details to their map. (Teacher could bring maps, students could use their phones, or teacher could project a city map for the class to see).
* Students complete reflection questions

3)Intermediate: map your country: (materials: printout, country map (paper or electronic/ projection), colored pen/ pencild)
* Students draw a mental map of their country
* Students share their maps with a partner and add new details
* Students consult a real map and use a colored pen/ pencil to add details to their map. (Teacher could bring maps, students could use their phones, or teacher could project a city map for the class to see).
* Students complete reflection questions

4)Advanced: map the world: (materials: printout, world map (paper or electronic/ projection), colored pen/ pencils)
* Students draw a mental map of the world (teacher may want to set a time limit of 10-15 minutes)
* Students share their maps with a partner and add new details
* Students consult a real map and use a colored pen/ pencil to add details to their map. (Teacher could bring maps, students could use their phones, or teacher could project a city map for the class to see). Again, the teacher may want to set a 10-15 minute time limit.
* Students complete reflection questions
