### Description

Put aside the worksheets and get your students reviewing math concepts, working together, and moving while working on their mental math facts with this fun math circle. Students practice their math facts and skills by making and solving different number sentences - all 4 operations are included in this resource. The Math Circle can be completed anywhere the students have a bit of space. They could make a circle in the classroom or the gym, or if the weather is nice, why not take it outside?

This Math Circle is similar to the format of my Drama Circles, in which students follow the directions on their cards, with each card following another. Students must pay attention to the task because they need to listen and watch for their turns.

The first step is to cut out enough number cards so that every student has a number which they can tape onto their shirt, or hang around their neck on a string (I just tape them – much quicker). Give out the numbers 0 – 9 as well as each of the math signs to the first 15 students, then repeat so that every student has one number or math sign card (it is perfectly OK to have doubles of the digits, as different students will be included in building different numbers). Then, pass out the instruction cards (1 – 40). Starting with the first card, students will follow the instructions on the card. For example, the first card asks the student to gather 8 people to make and solve the number sentence 49 + 24 = ___. So, the student would ask someone with a 4, someone with a 9, someone with an addition sign, someone with a 2, someone with a 4, someone with an equal sign, someone with a 7 and someone with a 3 to stand up and step into the circle. He or she would then arrange the 8 people to form the number sentence: 49 + 24 = 73 and then read the number sentence and answer aloud. Once the task is complete, the student with the next card goes.

I have also included a "teacher follow-along sheet" that summarizes all number sentences to be modelled, and how they are to be modelled.
