We have a block of time every day that is used as a "second math" time - where we basically have another half hour to either review previous concepts, focus on number sense, etc. I try to make this block of time different than our traditional lesson time by movement, activities, fun review, you name it!
In this division - cootie catcher, students are given a quotient and have to figure out how they got it! They have to provide the division sentence to make it true. It allows success for all students!
For instance, if I gave you the quotient of 9 and I asked you to provide to me a division sentence to make this true you could say... 18 / 2, 36 / 4, 27 / 3... and so on!
Have fun - my students think they're a blast! :) I always encourage them to challenge themselves because I can't be with every group all the time! They know that if they choose easy facts, they're not pushing themselves! The more practice they give each other, the quicker they'll be! :)
