These simple math games are designed to promote using mental addition and subtraction strategies while being fun at the same time! Check out what is included below and be sure to click PREVIEW above to see what it's all about.
MENTAL MATH HIDE AND SEEK: This activity is meant for partners or a small group. You will need to provide connecting cubes or other manipulatives to play. Print the cards and playing mats onto cardstock and laminate for durability. You could also place the playing mats into plastic sheet protectors. Students take turns picking a card and then building the number with the cubes. One student then breaks some cubes off while the others close their eyes. When the group opens their
eyes, they determine how many were taken away and write it into an addition and subtraction equation. Recording sheet included!
UNKNOWN NUMBERS TASK CARDS: For this activity, students can play independently or with a small group. Students pick a card and determine what number is “hiding.” This is a good follow up activity to the previous “Hide and Seek” partner game. A recording sheet and answer key are included. Print the cards onto cardstock and laminate for durability.
MAKE A TEN EQUATION MATCH: Played like “Memory Match,” students match pairs of equation cards that have the same sum or difference. One card is blue and the other is red. One card has a regular equation and the other has the “make a ten” match. Print on cardstock and laminate for durability. Answer key included.
