This is a power point presentation that any level of high school or late middle school math could use at the beginning or end of a class period for a quick fun activity.
Students are asked to think of a number between 1 and 9 and then follow several steps with that number. Here are the first couple of steps they go through:
1. Square it.
2. Add the result to your original number.
3. Divide by your original number.
and so on...
there are 6 steps altogether.
At the end, all students should end up with 3! Magic : )
There are several slides at the end of the presentation which show why you will always end up with three. The teacher can decide whether they wish to use those slides or not.
