Each week of mental math practice contains four days of mental math practice Powerpoint™ presentations. Each presentation contains 10 problems. These include simple percentage problems, simple multiplication and division of the type 500 x 4000, simple area and volume problems (no circles or cylinders), simple unit conversions, solving simple equations (variable on one side only), simplifying expressions using distributive property and/or combining like terms, integer arithmetic, and simple word problems.
After the initial slide which requires a click to advance, the slides advance automatically at 1 minute intervals but may be clicked to advance sooner. Some slides which require more reading are given an extra 15 seconds. An audio clue is given as each new problem is displayed to help keep students on track. A four day printable answer sheet is included.
This activity will take about 12-20 minutes depending on grade level and whether and how the problems are reviewed. It makes a good start up exercise in the 7th to 10th grade math classroom.
