This is a fun way for students to practice subtracting mentally. It is also a great introduction to estimating differences because students will see how much easier it is to subtract numbers that end in zeros.
Students work with a partner. One student solves the problems mentally, while the other student solves the problem with a calculator. Students race to see if they can "beat the calculator."
