Mental State Words - Free Sample

Mental State Words - Free Sample
Product Description
New research has shown that children with autism and related disorders can benefit from a specific emphasis on words that describe mental states. These are words such as "hope", "remember", and "pretend", that describe what is going on in someone else's head. Understanding these "invisible" concepts based on context is important in developing social skills and in reading comprehension, when understanding characters in a story.

In this worksheet students draw a line from the mental state to the corresponding situation. For students who do not read, an adult can read each scenario and then offer a choice of three mental state words, or ask students to label mental states independently by asking "What is the character doing in this situation?".
