This mentor sentence is over the book That's What Leprechauns Do by Eve Bunting. The skills covered (and assessed) in this mentor sentence product are Adjectives and Collective Nouns
Mentor sentences are sentences taken from text that display traits of great writing and grammar. I generally select my mentor sentence over grammar skills we are studying for the week, or that we have studied as a skill in the past. My mentor sentence generally comes from the text we are reading that week.
After selecting a mentor sentence, I create daily lessons centered around the mentor sentence. I print the mentor sentence (large copy) off for myself to glue or tape on my chart paper. The smaller copies, I give to the students to put into their notebooks.
We then spend the week reading for fluency, studying word choice, grammar and writing skills, and practicing for ourselves.
In the mentor sentence product from TPT, you will receive:
A large printout of the mentor sentence (can print on colored paper or white paper) for you to put on chart paper or a whiteboard/chalkboard
Smaller printouts of the mentor sentence for students to glue into their notebook
Daily lesson plans to use throughout the week
Daily Grammar work for students to complete during station time or independent time
Mentor Sentence Assessment (that I grade each week)
