Mentor Sentences for Grade 2 HARD COPY Book

Product Description
If you are looking for the DIGITAL version ONLY of the Mentor Sentences Bundle, click here.

Mentor sentences are the perfect way to teach grammar and author's craft through examples of excellent sentences from your favorite read-aloud books! Mentor sentences can absolutely be done with first and second graders, too! Teachers will just need to provide a lot more scaffolding and guidance in the lower grades than they would with the upper grades. This bundle is just what you need to implement mentor sentences in your classroom all year. I created these with second graders in mind, but it has been successful with first graders as well!

Not familiar with mentor sentences? Read all about them here!

As a former first and second grade teacher, I used to LOVE reading these books, so I know many of you do, too! They are definitely some of my favorites. I chose books that would be in most personal libraries or school media centers.

There is a HARD COPY Interactive Language Arts Notebook Companion! These sets includes an interactive activity for each focus skill in the mentor sentence sets. Every mentor sentence unit has a companion interactive notebook to help you teach and/or review the skill for the week!

You’ll also love to use these mentor texts in reading and writing, too! Make sure to get the HARD COPY BETTER THAN BASAL: Complete NO PREP Reading & Writing Units for 40 Popular Mentor Texts in Grade 2!

Do you do an author study of Kevin Henkes?
Check out the Kevin Henkes Mentor Sentences Mini-Unit!

There is also a BIG bundle of HARD COPY BOOKS with all Mentor Sentences, Interactive Notebooks, and Reading and Writing activities for all 40 books! Check it out!

You don’t need to do all of the mentor sentence lessons in the order they come in the units. When I created units 1, 2, and 3, I put them in an order that progressed in difficulty, so these lessons spiral, but it is not necessary to stay in that order. The first three units are more seasonally appropriate for beginning, middle, and end of the year, and then Unit 4 was created with “anytime” books that can be used throughout the year.

There is a free download of the "At-A-Glance" for all 40 books in Second Grade! This download will help you see all of the skills covered in the units if you’d like to “bounce around” within them.

Mentor Sentences can be done in ALL grades! Please tell your teacher friends about mentor sentences for their grade:
Kindergarten & ELL (Early Emergent Readers)
First Grade

There are TWO volumes for grades 3-5 to help prevent repetition of lessons and books within the same school:
Volume 1 for Grades 3-5
Volume 2 for Grades 3-5
