Book Nook Nibbles are what we call our mentor text literacy activities in my grade 3 class.
Although we read a class chapter text each term and explore it in depth and in great detail, we also like to dip into shorter picture book texts in our literacy centers and literature circle time. Book Nook Nibbles allow us to pick and choose activities.
“Saturdays and Teacakes" is a nostalgic story about the days a young boy spends with his grandmother and the special teacakes they make together each Saturday.Although it has a summer setting this is a “feel-good” book that can be used at any time of the year.
Literacy activities include:
Robust vocabulary exploration (finding onomatopoeias)
Thinking about the text
Reading Response (5 prompts)
Connecting to the story (3 prompts)
Writer’s craft exploration
We enjoy Nibbling - and hope you will too.
