Description

This Writers Workshop unit is all about Voice through author studies, characters and word choice. Students will learn about 4 authors and their writing style. They will practice this style in a first step to learn how to develop their own voice.

This writers workshop writing curriculum is part of a year long set designed to "hook" our students into loving the craft of writing. We want them to be engaged, motivated and successful. Each and every set will take you through the elements of a great writing program step by step.

This program is suitable for anyone teaching using the Write Traits and/or CCSS and has alternate spelling as well.

Hooked on Writing is not a unit full of writing prompts. It is a detailed and comprehensive curriculum with opportunities for choice, collaboration, and offers a growth mindset for writers.

This writing curriculum is also perfect for Canadian/UK students with alternative spelling included in each unit. This resource aligns to the British Columbia Curriculum.

This unit is JAM PACKED with ideas to teach writing every day of the month.

This set includes:

★Setting up for success

★Ideas for developing rich vocabulary

★ Lessons on GENRE so students understand that voice can come out of writing in different genres.

★ A structured process for getting kids to understand VOICE in writing. Students learn about authors and how they perfect their writing craft in their own voice by using great words and developing certain characters.

★ Fun writing activities including collaboration as a whole class to develop anchor charts together.

★ Discussion and sharing activities to develop oral language skills

★4 Mentor texts titles with lesson plans and matching activities that are designed to interest even your most unmotivated students because the activities are not all writing based but transfer over to writing.

You will need:

50 Below Zero by Robert Munsch

Scaredy Squirrel by Melanie Watt

Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes

Mr. Putter & Tabby Write the Book by Cynthia Rylant

★ Printables for most lessons. (Some are oral language and discussion based.)

★ Writing Vocabulary for the pocket chart or writing wall for every book.
