A great activity for the Merchant of Venice. This activity requires students to not only strive to understand the meaning behind the Elizabethan words, but to connect that meaning to our own time period. Fourteen quotes are featured. The first quotation is done as an example/model for the students to follow.
Directions to Students
For each of the quotes below: (1) copy the quotation, (2) explain what is happening in the play when the quotation occurs, (3) explain what is meant by the quotation (if figurative language needs to be explainedexplain it), and (4) explain why the wisdom of the quotation is timeless, and can be applied today as readily as it could in Shakespeares time.
