Description
These interactive, differentiated and prep-free lessons are a must-have! GRAPES stands for geography, religion, achievements, politics, economics, and society. It's an effective method of teaching students about a specific region. The activities are great for English language learners and students with special needs because they are self-paced and include reteaching slides.
HERE'S AN OVERVIEW OF THE LESSONS:
GEOGRAPHY: This is a Google Slides activity and includes printable task cards of each activity if you want a hard copy. This engaging activity includes gifs and maps as well as reading passages. It covers the Fertile Crescent, climate, waterways, interaction of people with their environment and more. The written short response questions allow for student choice.
RELIGION & SOCIETY (1 lesson): Students read a passage (or graph/quote/timeline, etc) and then answer a question. If they answer the question incorrectly they are automatically sent to a re-teaching page. If they answer correctly they are given a "congratulations" and moved on to the next question. The final slide is a written assessment to check for understanding.
ACHIEVEMENTS: This is also a self-correcting activity similar to the religion and society lesson above.
POLITICS & ECONOMICS (1 lesson) A reading on Mesopotamian trade and another on the government of Mesopotamia are 2 secondary sources used to answer stimulus-based multiple-choice questions. Students read an excerpt of Hammurabi's code to analyze a primary source.
These are Google Slides activities created for Google Classroom. I also include printable task cards of each activity if you want a hard copy.
Answer keys are provided where applicable.
The Bonus Lesson is a flipped classroom-style video and student handout on geography. It is designed to be assigned prior to the interactive lesson.
