Mesopotamia Map—This interactive notebook lesson on ancient Mesopotamia focuses on geography. In this activity, students will label and color a map of Mesopotamia and the fertile crescent. Students will also evaluate how the geography influenced life for the ancient Mesopotamians and why river valleys were good places to start up a civilization.
Sticky Note Summaries—This activity includes a set of 6 sticky notes with pictures related to the following: City States, Ziggurat, Cuneiform & Scribe, Caravan, Hanging Gardens, and Social Classes. Students cut out the sticky notes and glue them down using an attached tab. Then, they are required to write a 3 sentence summary describing what each one represents using the vocabulary listed above and color the pictures.
Mesopotamia Empires—This interactive notebook activity guides students through understanding the influences and characteristics of the three main empires of ancient Mesopotamia. These empires include Akkadians, Assyrians, and Chaldeans. In addition to this students will also develop the following new vocabulary terms: empire, province, and caravan.
Cradle of Civilization—In this activity, students will explain what the term "cradle of civilization" means and how Mesopotamia got this title. Then, they will list several advances and technologies that Mesopotamians created that are still used today.
