This file now contains 2 scripts on MESOPOTAMIA that involve students in reading and reviewing information about the land between the two rivers. Both scripts incorporate humor and contemporary language and references. One is a bit longer and more detailed than the other. Both use the same context of time travel. The second script is part of a collection in my book CURRICULUM-BASED READERS THEATRE SCRIPTS: SOCIAL STUDIES.
These readers theatre scripts are written for solo speakers with many parts for ALL so that teachers can use it with a whole class. Reading and rehearsing a script reinforces information and facts about the development of this civilization while also increasing reading fluency and engaging students in a dramatic approach to learning facts. Students enjoy creating and performing gestures and sound effects where indicated in the stage directions. And—because it is a script—they do not mind reading and re-reading the information. These Curriculum-Based Readers Theatre scripts are two of many I have created with students and teachers across the United States.
