Mesopotamia Zoom Backgrounds (Distance Learning)

These virtual classroom backgrounds for Zoom™, Google Meet™, and other platforms that use a 16:9 aspect ratio are a great way to keep your students interested when you’re teaching a unit on Mesopotamia. A total of 125 backgrounds were created from 16 different images. Some of the backgrounds are photographs of places and artifacts, some are a painting, and some are clipart images. Each background has 5 versions; the difference is in the titles and subtitles used and location of the text on the backgrounds. The backgrounds can be used on Zoom and other digital platforms.

* This resource is a zip file that includes a) a PDF document with information about using these backgrounds and the jpeg images, and b) a folder with the backgrounds as individual jpegs. The backgrounds are provided both ways for your convenience.

You can see all the Zoom backgrounds in the Preview. Different versions of the backgrounds were created to give you flexibility when using them: You can display 1 of the backgrounds and all its versions over several days; you can display a different background over the course of an entire unit of 15-16 days; or you can use different versions of each background if your unit is longer than 3 weeks.

The backgrounds consist of images of:

* Maps of Mesopotamia

* Places in and artifacts from Sumer, Babylonia, and Assyria

* Important people in Mesopotamian history

* Cuneiform tablets and cylinder seals

This resource also includes some suggested questions about the images on the backgrounds that you can ask your students to help activate their learning.

Using these Zoom backgrounds will spark your students’ interest in Mesopotamia and provide some virtual decor when you are teaching remotely!
