This handout explains to students the process of metacognition (thinking about their own thought process). It informs students that the only true way to grow as a writer is to consciously consider the revisions they made throughout the writing process.
Students are instructed to turn in a one-page, typed metacognition along with the final draft of their essay that responds to questions such as:
Why do you feel that you have succeeded or not succeeded in finding your voice?
What changes did you make to the final piece and why?
With new Danielson requirements for students to monitor their own learning and assess their own skills, metacognition is a key step in the writing process that will enable students to take charge of their own learning process.
Give this handout to your students as a guide to follow throughout the year!
