Questions to get students 'thinking about thinking'. This collection of resources can be used with whole class, groups or individuals. This is a comprehensive set of resources allowing teachers to select a depth that is right for their children - a flexible resource that can be used with a variety of age ranges.
The bundle includes posters, PDF slides, chatting sticks, key ring resources and a 'meta menu'. The variety of styles of resources allows teachers to customise and personal the resource for individual classes. It give teachers a wealth of resources that can be used to support pupils in developing their metacognitive skills.
Teachers can select specific questions or let pupils work through a range of questions in pairs or groups. Print out, laminate and cut up.
The resources are broken into three areas:
• Planning and understanding learning tasks – questions that help children to identify the problem, choose strategies, organise their thoughts, and predict outcomes.
• Monitor thought processes during a learning task– questions that help children consider if their approach is effective, are on the right track, are any corrective measures needed.
• Check outcomes – questions to help children evaluate the outcomes/learning objectives against specific criteria, consider what went well and how learning could be improved, consider the approach they took to achieving their goal and if it was effective. Answering questions such as : How did I do it? What method/strategy worked? What did I learn? Did my plan work out? Can I learn from my mistakes? Can I do better next time?
This is a highly flexible tool that can be used with pupils of many ages via the approach the teacher takes, the type of questions selected and the depth of student thinking. For younger students, teachers can use the resources for whole class discussion and for older students the menu cards serve as useful reminders. There are specific files aimed at younger pupils. Plenty of strategies to share across different year groups and teachers in your school.
Although you may not have the same fonts (KP fonts, from TPT - link included in pack) I have included the files as powerpoint and word files (and some Publisher files) for easy editing. Also included are the equivalent PDF files which ensures that the formatting is kept as designed for attractive printing and ease of use. I hope the variety of file formats means that you will be able to customise the resources to suit you class as easily as possible.
