Teaching students to think about their thinking is paramount in today’s classroom. It helps students become more successful at productively struggling. Meta cognitive strategies* (thinking about their thinking) can help them accomplish this.
This set of questions help students to examine, solve, and think about tasks. These question stems could be utilized in both math and science. It is best when the teacher first models using the question stems (e.g. model how to think about their thinking).
5 versions are included to match your classroom’s decor. (blue, green, yellow, pink and purple)
*Research suggests that as a student’s meta cognitive skills increase, achievement does as well.
