Why teach just about butterflies?

Dragonflies are just as beautiful as butterflies and also go through Metamorphosis! They go through simple Metamorphosis.

Did you know.....

"To the Japanese, the dragonfly symbolizes summer and autumn and is admired and respected so much so, that the Samurai use it as a symbol of Power, Agility and best of all, Victory!

In China, people associate the dragonfly with prosperity, harmony and as a good luck charm.

Among Native Americans, it is a sign of Happiness, Speed and Purity. Purity because the dragonfly eats from the wind itself!

Do you know the difference between simple metamorphosis versus complete metamorphosis?

Your students will after you teach them this lesson!

Dragonflies are very cool and fun to learn about insects!

Dragonflies have been around when the dinosaurs roamed the earth.

They start their lives as an egg and live in the water for 1 to 5 years before they emerge out the water and transform into a dragonfly.

When they live in water, they are called nymphs or naiads.

Did you know dragonflies breathe through their anus.?

This lesson will discuss the anatomy of a dragonfly and why it is considered an insect.

We also discuss:
Where they live; what they eat; who are their enemies; how fast they can fly and how long they live as a dragonfly.

At the end there are questions with answers to review what your students learned.

There are definitions to the different terminology used such as;
Nymph,
Naiad,
Odonta,
Instars;
Molt;
Teneral adult;
Simple metamorphosis;
Emergence;
Instinct;
Pupal stage;
Transformation

Once again your students will be a lot wiser because you taught them this lesson.

Have fun learning!
