Intermediate elementary aged kids (and beyond) will LOVE this engaging activity that reinforces/teaches metaphors and similes. The objective is for students to write 6 descriptive similes (then 6 metaphors) about an imaginary monster. After writing their similes/metaphors, students trade papers with a partner and must draw their partner's monster based only on the simile/metaphor descriptions. For example "My monster's eyes are as big as two round plates." The student then draws their partners monster using this description.
