This activity is a great way to look at metaphors and similes while undertaking a book study (the lightbulb theme works nicely with the book The City Of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau). However it can also be used to present metaphors and similes as general concepts.
Students fill out a choice of a foldable note or a simple table with similes and metaphors as they read a story. They then take this information and transfer it to a fun two sided hanging light bulb organizer. One side has the definition of a simile and students add three examples from the story, and the other side does the same with metaphors.
