Product Description

Scenario: You have been given a mystery to solve. Your friends have been cursed by a sinister magician, and now they can only speak in figurative language, which is starting to make everyone INSANE! The dawn will break in an hour, and if you don't unravel the clues, their language will be lost forever.  Hint: CAPS LOCK is your FRIEND!

This resource is a POETRY and FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE based digital escape room. It is a single web page with several different clues hidden within it. Students must LOCATE the clues and then FIGURE OUT how to SOLVE them. This room is moderately challenging if your students have experience with this type of digital escape (download my FREE room How to Escape a Digital Breakout to get them ready!), and it has several locks that will help

you assess their understanding of figurative language and its impact on a text.

This room Includes:

  1. A link to First Fig by Edna St. Vincent Millay and an accompanying metaphor question.
  2. Two figurative language puzzles
  3. A figurative language riddle
  4. A link to Music Video of Taylor Swift’s Mean (OPTIONAL! See below)
  5. An excerpt of Mean Taylor Swift with comprehension questions.
  6. A picture riddle relating back to Mean by Taylor Swift.
  7. A symbolism riddle

Some school filters may not support students’ access to the YouTube video I’ve linked to this room, and there may be some of you who simply do not want to have the video linked. That is FINE. The video is not necessary to unlock any of the links, but simply allows students to hear all of the lyrics to the song they will be analyzing more closely later. I have TWO links for the room, one with the video and one without, and you can use either.

This room is the perfect addition to your Poetry and Figurative Language Unit. ENJOY!!
