Meteor! by Patricia Polacco is a realistic story about a meteor that strikes the Gaw Farm in Union City, Michigan. As the townspeople rush to the farm to witness this spectacular event, they walk away feeling changed somehow. Your students will become engaged in the story by completing the Reader's Notebook and Center Activities. A QR code is included for a read aloud of the story.
The reader's notebook consists of activities to complete after and while reading the story. Also included are center activities to accompany the book. The reader’s notebook, on half sheets, includes comprehension questions (detail, inference, drawing conclusions, and making predictions). Also included is a page about character traits, notice the pictures, synonym match up, rhyming words, point of view writing activity, writing captions, character traits, fluency practice, notice the pictures, and grammar pages for practicing quotation marks and proper nouns.
The center activities include the use of vocabulary cards. Students may put the words in ABC order, sort words according to syllables, writing sentences, and determine parts of speech. Included is a homonym domino game using the words from the story. There is a template to create a story map for cause and effect. Also included is a puzzle to cut apart and put back together again by sequencing the events of the story.
