This metric system resource gets your upper elementary students thinking about and working with metric units by converting units to compare quantities in a fun and engaging way. Length (mm, cm, dm, m, km), capacity (mL, L, kL) and mass (mg, g, kg) are included in this resource – with 27 different cards for each unit of measure.
Math Mats can be used in so many ways in the classroom:
•Use the mat as a whole class warm-up activity, projecting the mat for students to see and having them use the A/B or True/False cards to participate.
•Use in the same way as a review activity after a lesson.
•Use the mats in a guided or small group math session and letting the students manipulate the cards on the mats.
•Use the mats as a math station activity or partner activity.
This resource includes:
• 6 different Math Mats – Skills covered include identifying the greater / less
quantity, comparing with inequality signs, and ordering quantities.
•A/B and True/False Student Cards – Students hold up these cards during math mat work to indicate their answers. The large print makes it easy for the teacher to quickly identify any areas of misconception or students that may need extra assistance.
•Number Cards – There are over 200 metric unit quantity cards included in this resource. There are three sets of cards: length, capacity and math. Each set contains 27 different numbers for each of the metric prefixes included (mm, cm, dm, m, km, mg, g, kg, mL, L, kL). Y
•Entrance and Exit Slips for each of the three measurement sets – To check for progress at the beginning and mid points / end of a unit (answers included).
•Black and White copies of all pages are also included.
