Product Description

This metric measurement resource provides an engaging review of length, mass and volume for your students. Included are seven stations that will reinforce learning of the centimeter ruler, graduated cylinder, and triple beam balance. In addition to the student centered activities, you will receive A Sneak Peek into My Classroom which provides you with teacher instructions, tips, and materials to use in your classroom. This activity ends with certificates for each station winner.

This resource reviews:

• Length: Students will practice measuring using the centimeter ruler and a meter stick by measuring the length of their foot or the distance an object travels.
• Volume: Students will use a graduated cylinder to practice how to determine the volume of a liquid. Students will do this by pouring a specific amount of liquid into the graduated cylinder and measuring the amount of liquid they can access.
• Mass: Students will demonstrate their knowledge of the triple beam balance by measuring the mass of different objects.

This resource includes:

• Sneak Peek into My Classroom: Teacher instructions with tips, suggested materials (all easy to find materials that you may already have in your classroom) to help you execute this lesson with confidence and ease.
• Seven Metric Measurement Activities:
• Opposite Hand Squeeze: Students use their non-dominant hand to squeeze water out of a sponge. This liquid is then measured in the graduated cylinder.
• Lemonade Stand: Students must measure specific amount of "lemonade" for their customers using a graduated cylinder.
• Big Footprint: Students will use measure their footprint using centimeter graph paper.
• Flying Paper Plate Pro Toss: Students will toss a paper plate like a Frisbee and use a meter stick to determine the distance it traveled.
• Javelin Joust: Students will toss a Popsicle stick like a Tyrannosaurus Rex and measure the distance it traveled.
• Hands of Strength: Students will try with Herculean strength to pick up cotton balls and mini erasers (Alternate ideas for materials included) and measure the mass of the objects using a triple beam balance.
• Pencil Case Wars: Students will measure the mass of their pencil case using a triple beam balance.

• Station certificates for the winners.
