-----------------------

In this highly engaging lesson, students evaluate two 1-page textbook excerpts to understand how both the Mexican and American side view this war!

Students will read one textbook from the American and one from the Mexican perspective while both are kept anonymous. Both sources are focused on the Mexican American War and present the proper perspective of their side. Students will try to figure out which is which based on the writing, the innate bias, and the terminology used by the writer. Then, students will compare the similarities between these two texts and contrast their differences. Finally, students will complete a short writing activity focused on the importance of recognizing bias!

This activity is a great way to meet the Common Core as it challenges students to understand the perspective of the author, recognize bias, and learn what (and what not) to focus on in a text!

This resource includes a paper in-class version and a 1:1 Google compatible version to be used in conjunction with Google Classroom. Just follow the included instructions for how to access the Google version, then share the resource through Google or assign via Google Classroom. This will allow students to type directly into the document!
